Wang Xiaoqu 王晓曲

Wang Xiaoqu (b. 1987, Guangxi, China) records a chronicle of daily events and images on canvases, using humorous narratives and exaggerated effects. Creating a raw visual experience, her works are inspired by her own experience as a photographer and reflect on how daily images that are registered in our mind or seen in news can transform our perception of reality into a grotesque and surreal one. Images are elaborated in order to impress onto the canvas the laughable relationships among human beings and the effect of overexposure, as well as incorporate photographic means in the realm of painting.

Wang received her MFA from the Oil Painting Department of Sichuan Fine Arts Institute in 2014.

The artist currently lives and works in Beijing.
