Tan Yongqing

Tan Yongqing (b.1990, Hebei, China) is an emerging artist of the post-90s Chinese contemporary figurative painting. His ongoing interest about life consciousness and social issues are the main focus in his practice. He is known with the distinctive way of depicting portraits, the figures often appear with fuzzy and distorted faces, as well as a hint of rigid emotion and movement. The geometrically regular images in the paintings are not only a tribute to classicist paintings, but also a faithful reflection of the current visual habits and imaging modes. Tan Yongqing’s self-portrait and his determination of portraying characters in his work, is a form of self-searching, and an exploration of the contemporary world.

Tan Yongqing received his BFA from Tsinghua University in 2014, following with an MFA from Graduate School of Fine Arts of Tsinghua University in 2017.

The artist lives and works in Hebei Shijiazhuang.
